Hello all!
With April kicking off the summer blockbuster season nowadays, I think it's a good time to share my top 10 most anticipated summer film releases! Note : I'm counting summer movies as movies released between the months of April and August.
10. Sausage Party
I have already talked about my thoughts of this movie in a previous Trailer Talk. (link if you haven't read it.) Basically to sum up my thoughts about this movie, it has an awesome cast filled with great voice talent and some really funny people. It's concept is great, and the R-rated humor in an animated movie is a fresh idea from the guys who just keep making funny content, like This Is The End. I enjoy animation quite a bit, and I love comedies. This movie combines two great things and will hopefully make another great thing. So far these group of actors have not disappointed when making content similar to this.
9. Finding Dory
We have here a very very very different type of animation. In my opinion, Pixar have yet to make a bad film (although I have not seen Cars 2 and many people beg to differ on that.) The trailer is not that great, but just the fact that this movie is coming out makes me anticipate it's release. It's a cute trailer, but nothing special, unlike last year's Inside Out trailer which blew me away. Finding Nemo is one of my favorite films of all times, and probably my favorite animation besides The Lion King. Ellen DeGeneres as Dory is always great and she seems to already be the best part. The animation is stunning and a lot of new underwater creatures that we did not get a chance to see in Finding Nemo make an appearance in the trailer.
8. Neighbors 2 : Sorority Rising
Similarly to Finding Dory, we have another sequel that has a trailer that does not look to be that special, but just the fact that the first movie was so good, I am anticipating it. Zac Efron is in my opinion a very promising young actor, despite being bashed for his Disney roots. He especially excels in comedic roles, as shown in Neighbors. The first Neighbors was hilarious. It came out in the same year as 22 Jump Street, which I loved the crap out of, and I think I enjoyed Neighbors a bit more. Seth Rogen and Zac Efron have a cool "bro" chemistry which usually leads to some fun gags. I have a fear that this movie will be very similar to the first, except with the fraternity replaced with a sorority, but I think the writing team, which includes Rogen, will know how to keep it fresh.
7. The Huntsman : Winter's War
Okay. So this is a bit of an unpopular opinion, but I have to say, this movie looks like a good time. I actually found Snow White and the Huntsman to be a bit of a guilty pleasure. I thought if Snow White was just removed from the story it wouldn't be that bad. And they did exactly that. Kristen Stewart is gone from the picture, and this movie looks like an improvement. Firstly, the four leads are fantastic. Charlize Theron was a badass in Mad Max : Fury Road, and is an all around fantastic actress. Emily Blunt, a new rising female action star after her performance in 2014's Edge of Tomorrow, also is in this film. Jessica Chastain, who gives great dramatic performances in all films shes in, most recently The Martian and Interstellar, also makes her appearance. I am intrigued to see what she can do in an action film. Chris Hemsworth, I mean what can I say about this guy. He is Thor. He pulls off believable action stunts and looks good while doing it. These four leads combined with the beautifully crafted CGI shown in the trailers look to make a fun popcorn-munching good time at the theater. Will this be an Oscar winner? Probably not. But will I likely have fun watching this. You're damn right.
6. Now You See Me 2
I talked about this movie previously in Week 2's news rundown. To summarize, Now You See Me was a big surprise to many. So much that it spawned this sequel. It's cast is great, filled with new and returning characters, and the mood of mystery that the first film kept seems to still be prevalent. Daniel Radcliffe is moving out of his Harry Potter typecast and into some more fun roles, and Jesse Eisenberg, who just gave an interesting performance as Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman, which I discussed in my review, is always entertaining to watch. I do enjoy when smaller scale films, that are still blockbusters, like Now You See Me or Snow White and the Huntsman still get sequels, because most of these films have a cult following, who's fans follow the film to the end of time.
The top 5 will be in tomorrow's post! Thank you for reading!
