Sunday Review : Daredevil Season 2 : Episodes 10-12

Hello all! I finished the second season of Daredevil last week, and to (almost, I am currently making a finale and wrap-up post) complete my series of reviews for this season's episodes, I present to you the final episodes. Warning : Spoilers

Episode 10
Like I said, this is the last great episode of the season, in my opinion. Many other reviewers say that they loved the last few episodes, but I didn't. But Episode 10 continued with the awesomeness of this season. Something I really admired about this episode is how Frank Castle has this underlying aura where you feel his presence, even though he is not even in the episode. You are scared for these people, and terrified yourself, and the man is not even in the shot. That is how villains (kind of) should be. My favorite scene in this episode was Matt's prison meeting with Wilson Fisk. First off, just seeing how Fisk runs the prison like a king is incredible. I was on the edge of my seat during this scene, because the dialogue between these two extremely smart men is quite intellectual. Pretty much, all Matt accomplished was making Fisk very ticked off, and when he is eventually released from prison, it's gonna take a lot to save Matt. I also really enjoyed the rooftop conversation between Claire and Matt, because it reminded me of Season 1, and how there were often long conversations about Matt's morality. There was one weird editing flaw in this episode that was kind of strange to me though. The fight between Elektra and the man sent to kill her, sent by Stick, was weird. It started with their conversation, then it looked like they were going to fight, then it cut and didn't go back to the confrontation until almost twenty minutes later. At that point I almost forgot about. It's simply a minor editing flaw, but it just felt off to me. In the end, I still really had a good time with this episode.

Episode 11
So this episode actually isn't that bad, it's actually good. I am just used to most Daredevil episodes being fantastic, that when a good episode rolls around it feels bad. I really like the relationship that has been built with Frank and Karen across the course of this season. I also like how they didn't have Frank be a saint around Karen; in the diner, she got to see his bloodlust first-hand, and made her feel slightly worse for assisting a man like this. Also following this she got to witness the aftermath of the destruction that Frank caused on the Blacksmith's heroin ship. In addition, we haven't seen the Punisher and Daredevil on screen together since Episode 4, my personal favorite of the season, and it was cool to watch the tag-team once more. Where I felt this episode failed was it's entertainment. This episode was not fun. Daredevil is not your normal Marvel spectacle of bright colors and fun times, but it is still an entertaining show that you want to binge watch. But this episode felt overly dark, and just wasn't fun. Maybe this is just me, but I believe that this was just a good episode.

Episode 12
I think this is by far the worst episode of the season. By Daredevil standards, it's better than it sounds. But I didn't really like this episode. Before I watched this episode, I thought that the Blacksmith would be Stick. It seemed logical that he is behind all of these shenanigans, but I was pretty wrong on that. It never explicitly said that the Colonel is the Blacksmith, and I actually believe that he isn't, but only works for him, and that felt kind of off for me. I did not like the "Blacksmith reveal" at all. I thought it didn't really make any sense, and it felt kind of shoehorned in. Maybe in the next season we will get a more grounded explanation, but this all I have right now, and it wasn't up to Daredevil standards. The glimmer of hope shown in this episode was Karen and Ellison's scene when he convinced her not to quit the story. As someone aspiring to work in writing, I felt that that scene hit on a personal level for me, and it was done well, and I was invested in Ellison's character, who I didn't care for in the first season. I also felt as if the Black Sky reveal was a little rushed. I think they should have kept us guessing on the Hand, even more than they already are, then just saying that Elektra is the Black Sky. However, I did like the Elektra flashbacks, displaying how it is just almost like an animal instinct for Elektra to kill. Daredevil is such a damn good show, in that it's worst episode, is just okay.

Well, stay tuned for the finale review and wrap up post, and thank you for reading!
