3 Underrated Movies of 2015 That You Should Watch

Hello all!

Today's post, before tomorrow's Trailer Talk, which I have not yet decided the subject of, is about three underrated movies from the year 2015, which are absolutely great films, that deserve more attention then they get. Please support these filmmakers and rent them or something!

99 Homes
99 Homes deals with subject matter that not many people are interested in, and I can understand that. Plus, a low budget, and a fairly new director does not help the popularity either. But this movie stunned me. As someone who hardly knows anything dealing with the housing crisis in 2008, I was shocked about the reality of the situation. If you are unaware of the situation, basically a lot of people got evicted from their homes by real-estate brokers and were homeless.  Also, this movie does not sugarcoat anything. It portrays the problems with the bankers and the homeowners in equilibrium. Andrew Garfield and Michael Shannon both give excellent performances in their respective roles. In a movie about real-state brokers and bankers, I was not bored for a minute. In fact, I was on the edge of my seat, because I really cared for the well being of Garfield's character's family. It is honestly better if you don't know more, because neither did I. I highly recommend watching 99 Homes.

Mississippi Grind
I watched this movie really unexpectedly. I just picked it up at RedBox and figured it seemed interesting enough to watch for a night. It was so much more than the expectations, or lack of, that I had. I watched it exactly the way the filmmakers wanted me to. It is a low-key, off the beaten path, road trip movie that is good to watch late at night, while raining if possible. It illustrates the story of two gambling addicts, both with two very distinct philosophies on life, on a road trip. It does not really have much of a plot, but the character pieces of the two leads are quite insightful, assisted by the great performances by Ryan Renolds and Ben Mendelsohn. It's worth a watch.

The Gift
Of these three, this is the one I am most surprised does not receive more attention. The Gift is my second favorite film of 2015, the first being the obvious Star Wars. It is chilling, unsettling, masterfully edited, and just gets under your skin. Those are the exact qualities you want from a thriller, and The Gift more than delivers. Joel Edgerton wrote, directed, and acted in this, and he executed all three jobs to perfection. He is a first time writer and director, and I can't wait to see what he does next. Jason Bateman as a dramatic actor is also interesting to see, and he does it brilliantly. Honestly, the less you know about this film, the better it is.
