So this movie is coming out this summer. I actually had no idea. Well let's get into the trailer that came out on Monday.
(I apologize for keeping this post pretty short.)
So if you have not seen the trailer, it's right there. Now the 2010 Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland was okay. I didn't hate it and I didn't love it. It was a fun movie experience, but it had many writing and story problems.
This time Tim Burton is not in the director's chair, but he's producing, so his name is still printed all over this thing, and you can tell. This movie looks like an acid trip. I can guarantee you that about half of the people at a screening of Alice Through the Looking Glass will be high. It looks mesmerizing, trippy, and like if someone wrote down something out of Burton's dream journal.
This trailer is put together pretty nicely though. The song in the background really works and adds to the dream-like feel of it all, and it also kind of sounds like a James Bond theme. All the CGI looks impressive, but that was expected, due it being the best part of the first film. The visual style is absolutely gorgeous, with a cartoonish, spunky, and realistic feel all at the same time. Same goes for the costume design. Johnny Depp is in his comfort zone, so I am assured he will provide an over-the-top Depp-like performance.
The trailer gives you just enough about the story for you to be intrigued, but not too much for it to be basically the entire movie. Also, Sacha Baron Cohen is a new character in this film, as the villain, if I'm not mistaken. That part looks pretty cool, and might be the highlight of this feature.
The last part with Humpty Dumpty was pretty cute and gave a good laugh and closed the trailer nicely.
In the end, my expectations are not too high for this movie, but who knows, I like to be surprised.
