Hello all!
As I am writing this, it is really late at night, because I wanted to get this review out before I sleep! I apologize for missing some scheduled posts, but stuff happens ya know. If you noticed last review I said I knew where this season was going. Yeah I was wrong. (Spoilers!)
Episode 7
I thought this episode was going to be titled "People vs Frank Castle". But I was wrong, because Semper Fidelis is much more fitting. If you are unaware, semper fidelis is Latin for "always loyal" and is the motto of the United States Marines, the branch of the armed forces that Frank fought in. Nice little poetic titling there.
Another less action heavy episode here, similarly to Episode 6, but that doesn't mean it wasn't entertaining. This episode is my second favorite of the season, and for good reason. I enjoy the discussion of the legal tactics between the lawyers, and the fight between Matt and Foggy, where Foggy loses his s***, which I predicted, happened. The scenes with Karen and Frank are very insightful and interesting, always leaving you guessing if Frank actually cares for Karen, or is just playing a game with her until he pulls the trigger. I love Frank being an incompetent defendant, causing Foggy even more stress while Matt was out doing shenanigans with Elektra. I haven't talked about the Matt/Karen thing in a bit, but their conversation on being a vigilante made me question my own beliefs about doing so.
The season finally began to weave together the two major plot lines of this season, with the whole pit that the Hand likely made being discovered towards the end and stuff.
Episode 8
(I'm writing these really fast so they might be a little short) Holy mother of god! Wilson Fisk is here! Vincent D'onofrio as Wilson Fisk is what made the first season of Daredevil not just a great season, but a near perfect season. I was wondering if he was going to make an appearance in this season, and he will most likely make his presence felt in the following episode. If you told me that Season 2 includes Elektra, Stick, The Hand, The Punisher, Wilson Fisk, and more new stuff, I would have told you that that is too much stuff to cram into the season. But the pacing is very excellent and everything flows smoothly. Like you got to give credit for the pacing of these episodes. They are nearly an hour each and I watch three at a time without being tired, and I don't even binge watch that much!
I enjoyed how Elektra's true feelings about Matt were finally spilled on him (like the blood of that ninja kid (too soon?)) towards the end of this episode, to keep the guessing at a tame level. The "Stick" episode from Season 1 felt very out of place and strange, but now it makes more sense. It was all just a giant set-up for The Hand in Season 2. I am not a huge fan of the Stick character, but he was fine in the episode.
Overall consensus about this episode : Wilson freakin' Fisk!
Episode 9
(Okay last one before I sleep it's almost 3 A.M.) "In prison there's only room for one kingpin." I love that line so much. Wilson Fisk made his gigantic presence felt in this episode. It is probably my third favorite episode of the season so far, largely due to Fisk. The episode starts with a little run-down on what Fisk's life in prison has been like since the finale of Season 1, and to set-up the interesting relationship he forms with Frank as he enters jail. The Matt/Foggy drama felt eerily similar to last season, but the effects seem more irreparable this time around. Karen doing her shady reporting is always fun, and "The Blacksmith" is likely going to be a character we are already familiar with. (My guess is Stick). Following all the Fisky Fun were two amazing fights. The prison fight with Frank and tons of prisoners, and the Round #2 between Matt and Nobu. The prison fight was my preferred of the two, due to it being a more brutal version of the Season 1 hallway fight. Him stabbing people with whatever he can muster around him was gruesomely entertaining. Nobu and Matt, was great, and Matt got his ass handed to him again.
Thank you for taking the time to read (if you did). When I wake up tomorrow I will try to get the original content out for Monday's post!
